Career Center Services

Career Counseling

Open to students and alumni, career counseling addresses issues such as choosing a major, exploring career options, gaining career-related experience, summer jobs, graduate school questions, and job search strategies. Career counselors can also help you develop a personal career search strategy and improve your interviewing skills. To schedule an appointment, call 706-236-2292.

Self-Assessment ServicesSelf Assessment

If you are trying to decide on a major or have a major but are unsure about possible career options, the Career Center can help!

Individual Career Counseling Appointments- are the best way to begin exploring interests, values, and skills and relating them to possible major and career options. Other self-assessment options can be discussed during these sessions.

Focus 2 - is a computerized career guidance system to help you research information about your values, interests, and skills. It will also provide information regarding occupations. Log into the Plan4Experience link on VikingWeb.

Stong Interest Inventory - is a computerized instrument that will help you identify your career-related interests. Make an appointment with the Career Center at 706-236-1292 for more information.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - is a computerized instrument that will help you identify personality traits that relate to majors and career options.

Workshops and Seminars

Each year the Career Center offers numerous workshops on various topics including: Resume writing, networking, interviewing skills, internships and graduate school preparation. For a complete workshop schedule, click on the workshop button on this site, call 706-236-2292 or stop by the Career Center in room 310, Krannert Center. Check out the latest Career Tribune (link) for details.

Career Library

The Career Library includes various print materials and handouts to help with career exploration, internship and job search. Resources are available as well.

No appointment is needed to use the self-help Career Library which is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Career Shadowing

The Career Center encourages all students who are trying to decide on a major, career field, or just wanting to know more about a particular occupation to set up informational interviews and career shadowing with professionals in the fields that they are considering. The Career Center counselors are available to meet with students one-on-one to discuss the benefits of these activities, the best ways to go about setting them up, as well as providing resources for finding contact names in specific professional fields.

Alumni Career Network

Hundreds of alumni have volunteered to participate in the Alumni Career Network. This network enables you to contact alumni throughout the United States to gain information about career fields and/or to solicit assistance during your job search. To access the Alumni Career Network, go to VikingWeb, go to Plan4Experience, and click on Alumni career Network.

Career Conversations

Career Conversations consists of alumni panel discussion programs held throughout the year. Students learn about career fields, about connections between college majors and career choices, and about college-to-career transitions. Great networking too!

Mock Interviews

The Career Center coordinates a mock interview program where students are interviewed by a staff member or an employer and then given feedback on what they could do to improve for real interviews in the future. Call the office to schedule an appointment, and be prepared to submit a copy of your resume and a job description in advance. We make this process as real as possible, so be sure to dress for the part on the day of the interview.

Graduate School Resources

The Career Center’s library houses information on graduate programs in the U.S., as well as booklets on the tests required for graduate school admission. We’re happy to meet with students to discuss graduate school essays and interviews as well.
