President Stephen R. Briggs

Briggs head shotDr. Steve Briggs is a nationally recognized advocate for exceptional undergraduate educational experiences who became Berry College’s eighth president on July 1, 2006. He was drawn to Berry by its distinctive educational approach, remarkable history and amazing campus.

With his leadership, the college has renewed its emphasis on combining challenging academics with firsthand experiences that are character-enhancing and career-preparing. In recent years, Berry has increased its academic offerings, established more than a dozen student enterprises, and added six new varsity sports. It has opened three major buildings and renovated a half-dozen more. Berry also created a remarkable scholarship program, as part of its LifeReady campaign, which will enable 120 students to work their way through college and graduate debt-free.

Dr. Briggs is a creative and principled leader with more than 30 years of experience in academic and strategic positions at colleges in Oklahoma, Florida and New Jersey. He has previously served on the Board of Trustees for the SACSCOC, the accrediting organization for all colleges and universities in the south, and the Board of Directors for the Council of Independent Colleges. He is also actively engaged in numerous other professional, community and church organizations.
