Through an endowed fund, you can provide students increased opportunity to attend Berry through need-based and merit scholarships that include a work component among the selection criteria. You can also designate other criteria for the scholarship, including academic major, work assignment, hometown, class year and length of award, among others.
Once established, these scholarships exist in perpetuity to assist current and future generations of Berry students. Each year, approximately 5 percent of the earnings from the scholarship endowment are restricted for the scholarship award. Earnings over and above that amount are reinvested in the named endowment account, allowing further growth for the scholarship fund.
Endowed scholarships have a minimum endowment level of $25,000 that can be reached over a period of five years ($5,000 per year for five years). Funding can also be provided through bequests, annuities and other types of Planned Gifts. Scholarships may be established by one or more individuals. As the donor, you will have the opportunity to name your scholarship, providing a lasting way to honor someone special in your life.
NOTE: Those wishing to endow a Gate of Opportunity Scholarship are currently eligible for special matching funds. Contact Scott Breithaupt for more information.
These funds are need-based and help students attend Berry on an annual basis. As with endowed funds, selection criteria are permitted, such as major, hometown, class year, etc. You will also have the opportunity to name the scholarship, providing a lasting way to honor someone special in your life.
Expendable scholarships require a minimum annual gift of $1,000. Typically, the entire amount will be expended in the year following the gift.
In addition to establishing your own scholarship, you can also support students through gifts to Berry’s annual giving program, the Firsthand Fund. Such gifts can be made in honor or memory of an individual and directed to an existing scholarship fund, if you so desire.
