Government and International Studies majors page photo

Do you imagine a future in which you have a positive impact on the strategic direction of your firm? If so, you should take a closer look at the management program at Berry College. Regardless of your eventual career path, every organization values the type of individual who understands how to run a profitable and ethical  business, manage complicated projects and processes, and lead and inspire people. Berry’s management program can help you prepare for a variety of career opportunities in business, government and nonprofit organizations – or for graduate study.

Why choose a management major at Berry?

Building on a solid foundation of liberal arts, science and general business, you’ll develop a broad understanding of management.

Through the shared business core courses, you’ll gain basic knowledge of accounting, marketing, economics, information systems, and the social and legal environment of business.

As a management major, you will take courses which will help you gain critical management skills in:

  • Strategic planning
  • Global business management
  • Operations management
  • Leading and managing people

You will also have the opportunity to focus your studies – through elective and independent studies – on entrepreneurship, international business or human resource management.

How will you experience management firsthand?

At Berry, you will gain “value added” experience by participating in internships and community projects. Internships can connect academics with your career; with Berry’s proximity to Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga, opportunities for business-related internships are numerous. In addition, many classes visit local work sites, do projects with local nonprofits and private organizations, and have executive guest speakers from such firms as Home Depot, Mohawk Industries, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Suzuki, Pirelli, Temple Inland Paper Co., Coca-Cola and SunTrust.

Where do graduates get jobs?

Graduates of the Campbell School of Business have numerous professional opportunities when they graduate. They have acquired management positions in human resources, retail, quality assurance, operations, customer service and sales. Recent graduates work for Turner Entertainment, Cintas, Home Banc Mortgage Co., United Community Bank, Florida Rock, the Baptist Church and Wells Real Estate Funds. Others have become entrepreneurs, starting businesses such as PaperBackSwap, and opening franchises for Chick-fil-A and other firms.

What's great about the Berry management faculty?

Berry College is student focused with an emphasis on great teaching in small 12-15 member classes. You’ll have full time faculty members, not teaching assistants. Your professors are leaders in diverse specialties that bring the world into your classroom. Their areas of expertise include operations management, quality management, medical mistake-proofing, born-global firms, strategic knowledge management, entrepreneurship, Asian and international business, career management, women’s work/family issues, business and society, decision making models, and human resources. Faculty members also are active business consultants with major companies and nonprofit organizations.

What about student organizations?

Many management participate in Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX), the college division of DECA, an international organization that promotes management, marketing and community service. Other students participate in SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise). SIFE teams, active in 31 countries, help their communities better understand free enterprise. The Berry SIFE and DEX teams frequently win regional and national competitions, and many Berry students find jobs through SIFE and DEX conventions. Management students also participate in the local Society for Human Resource Management, the Berry Investment Group and many management-related leadership activities on campus.
