Berry College - Campbell School of Business

Statement of Values

The faculty of the Campbell School of Business is committed to fulfilling the Berry College mission of educating CSOB's student's Head, Heart and Hands within the context of the School's disciplines. We believe that conscientious people work to create value for clients and a better life for fellow workers as an integral part of their business endeavors, as well as engaging in service to their community. We believe in educating the whole person and not each part separately. Thus, education and development of the Head, the Heart and the Hands is integrated throughout our curriculum and interactions with students, faculty and staff. This document articulates and affirms our core beliefs and values. We define beliefs as expressions of concepts that we consider to be true and self-evident and values as expressions of desirable behavior.

We value:
  • A curriculum that stimulates the mind, cultivates a strong work ethic, and develops personal value systems
We value a curriculum that challenges (Head) our faculty and students, and responds to the needs of a rapidly changing business community. We seek to maintain currency in our respective fields and be continuously active in our professional disciplines.
  • Multiculturalism and diversity We value developing awareness of different cultures, views, and norms (Head, Heart) and encouraging behaviors consistent with these values (Hands).
  • A supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff
We see value in rewarding and recognizing students, faculty, and staff accomplishments (Head, Heart, Hands). We recognize our internal stakeholders for their contributions to value creation, quality improvement, and other processes.
  • Collaboration, teamwork and the promotion of individual strengths
We value the talents and abilities (Head, Hands) of individual faculty and students. We also recognize that cooperation increases value. We value a learning environment (Head, Heart) that fosters discussion and open exchange of ideas while increasing understanding, interdisciplinary exchange, and synergy of thought.
  • Service-learning and citizenship
We value the opportunity to engage and be active participants (Head, Heart, Hands) in service learning activities with the school, the college, and the community. This reflects Martha Berry’s charge, “not to be ministered unto, but to minister to.”
  • Interacting with the larger community including local, national, and international publics.
We value developing positive relationships with external community partners, including interactions with our Executive Advisory Council, professional associations, publishers, businesses, and other stakeholders. We value the benefits our students derive through interactions with our external stakeholders, internships, co-operative program, and study abroad.
  • Continuous improvement of processes.
We value the benefits of systematic assessment and evaluation (Head, Heart, Hands) of stakeholder satisfaction to continuously improve the curriculum content, process, and our School’s educational experience. Continuous improvement leads to effective utilization of human, financial, and physical resources.
  • Worthwhile work done well.
We value worthwhile work that is done well (Heart, Hands). “Worthwhile work” provides value to our stakeholders. “Work done well” results from high standards, strong work ethic (Hands), academic excellence (Head), ethical behavior and integrity (Heart), and a commitment to continuous improvement.
