President and Vice Presidents are elected volunteers who serve as leaders, representatives, advisors and ambassadors.

Timothy GoodwinPresident, Timothy J. Goodwin (03C), 2013-2014

As president-elect, Tim Goodwin will succeed Harry Wise as president of the Alumni Association on July 1, 2014. Tim is the 2007 recipient of the Association's Outstanding Young Alumnus award. He lives in Canton, Ga., with his wife Maureen Trane Goodwin (03C) and their three daughters, Canaan, Shiloh and Eden. Shortly after graduating from Berry, Tim founded Goodwin Investment Advisory to help lead people to financial peace, independence and generosity. They are very active in their church, Watermarke, a North Point Community Church Campus, where they serve in children's church as adult small group leaders. The Goodwins enjoy giving back to Berry by speaking to students and serving in Alumni leadership roles. Tim is a member of Berry's Campbell School of Business Executive Advisory Council and serves as a coach for the school's entrepreneurship program. In his free time, Tim enjoys running, long walks on the beach, and singing in the rain.

Harry Wise

Immediate Past President, Berry Alumni Association: Haron W. Wise (57H), 2012-2014

Haron “Harry” W. Wise (57H) became president of the Berry Alumni Association July 1, 2012. As president, he also serves on Berry's Board of Trustees. He was born in Montgomery, Ala., and raised in Santa Rosa County, Fla. After graduating from Mt. Berry School for Boys, he attended Georgia Tech before enlistment in the U.S. Air Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business administration from Troy State University in Troy, AL, and he completed the Graduate School of Sales Management and Marketing at Syracuse University. Harry began a career in sales with American Can Company in New York, and subsequently spent the next 36 years in various sales, marketing and management positions with several companies, including work as a buyer for Shell Oil. He retired as a partner and corporate vice-president of sales and marketing with a steel and fiber drum manufacturing company in Mason, Ohio. He is a past ordained elder of the Presbyterian Church, a past mayor of Montgomery, Ohio, and a past member and officer of several professional organizations including the Packaging Institute, the Petroleum Packaging Council and the Steel Shipping Container Institute.

Harry has been married for more than 50 years to wife Virginia. The couple, who have two adult children and two grandchildren, relocated to Rome, Ga., in 2008. He is a member of the Rome Rotary Club and Rome Exchange Club and is a member of the Rome First United Methodist Church. Prior to being named president-elect of the Berry Alumni Association, he was vice-president of Alumni Events. He is currently on the Board of Advisors for Berry Student Enterprises and is a member of the Berry Breakfast Club. 

David SladeVice President, Berry Heritage: Dr. David S. Slade (97C)
David Slade graduated from Berry College in 1997 with a double major in Spanish and Communication. He is an alum of the Berry College Forensics Union.  Currently, he is Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Berry. Since the summer of 2008 he has directed a seven-week program in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, in which Berry students learn about Costa Rican culture and assist local elementary school teachers with their English courses.  He earned an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in Spanish from Emory University, with a focus in colonial Latin American literature and culture.  As historian, he is interested in connecting narratives about Berry’s impact across generations.

 Becky ChristopherVice President, Alumni Awards: Rebecca B. Christopher (61C), 2011-2015

Becky Christopher graduated from Berry in 1961. For 50 years she has been happily married to Al Christopher, whom she met at Berry in 1957. She received an MS in English Education in 1965 from Arkansas State University and, after moving to Destin, Florida in 1968, completed certification in Library Media Studies. She either taught English or worked as a public school librarian in Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas and Florida for 37 years. Since retiring in 2002, she has traveled a bit and has begun teaching ESL classes at her church. She has enjoyed becoming reacquainted with her fellow classmates and participating in alumni activities, especially the 50th reunion in May, 2011.  

T. Mack BrownVice President, Financial Support: T. Mack Brown (82C), 2013-2015

T. Mack Brown graduated from Berry College in 1982 with a double major in economics and physics. In 1983, he co-founded Brownstone, a software company that worked closely with textbook publishers and academic instructors. In the mid-1990s, his company maintained an office on the Berry campus. About 50 Berry students from a wide range of disciplines designed and developed software with Mack during that period. His current venture is an academic publishing company. As a student, Mack served as the editor-in-chief and cartoonist for the Campus Carrier. He worked on the carpenters crew, produced multi-media projects for the public relations office, and was a resident assistant. He was the first president of Berry's economics honor society. He is the 1994 recipient of Berry's Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. He has served previously as a Berry Alumni Association council member and officer, and assists frequently with reunions for the college class of 1982. In his free time, Mack is the drummer for Exit Strategy, a four-piece ensemble which he calls "the world's most adequate rock-and-roll band." He is a late-blooming tennis player, a portrait painter, and a reluctant runner. He and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Decatur, Georgia.   

 Laura SuttonVice President, Young Alumni & Student Relations: Laura A. Sutton (09C), 2012-2014 

Laura Sutton graduated from Berry College in May 2009, Magna Cum Laude, with majors in Management & Marketing. During her time as a student at Berry, Laura, a Birmingham, Alabama native, served as the Student Government Association President, SGA Vice President for Campus Services, and a Freshman Mentor. In 2009 she was awarded the Martha Berry Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Achievement, the Gordon L. Foy Business Award, and a Voice of Berry Student Award.

While serving as a member of the alumni council from 2009-2011, Laura collaborated with the Alumni Relations team to create a new Berry young alumni program. She moved to Nashville, TN in July 2009 to pursue her Masters of Education in Organizational Leadership from Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, Laura worked as a special educational research assistant where she delivered tutoring in math to low performing 2nd grade students in Metro Nashville Schools. She graduated with her M.Ed in May 2011.

Laura currently works for Deloitte Consulting, LLC in Atlanta, GA. She is a Human Capital Analyst in Deloitte’s HR Transformation service line. In her free time Laura enjoys catching up with her friends, twitter, hula hooping, hiking, the outdoors, Alabama football, traveling, and spending time with her family. Her brother, Trevor Sutton, is a junior at Berry and is in the Winshape College program.

 Ruth MartinVice President, Alumni Events: Ruth K. Martin (65C), 2012-2014 

Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Volunteer. Even before retiring from active employment as manager/coordinator of volunteers for various agencies in the Rome area for over 25 years, Ruth was also a volunteer. She remains active with First United Methodist Church, Townview Garden Club and P.E.O. and their four busy grandsons fill lots of time for her and husband Wes. They still sing in church and in the Rome community. A most recent project was purchasing and now updating the Martin family home in Southwestern Virginia for a place to get away and see some snow!  

Chaplain, Parliamentarian, Secretary, and Historian are volunteers appointed by the Alumni Association President to serve and support specific functions of the Alumni Association.  

Valerie LonerChaplain,  Rev. Valerie J. Loner (91C)

Rev. Valerie Loner (91C) serves as pastor of Rush Chapel United Methodist Church in Rome. A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Valerie graduated from Berry in 1991 with a bachelor of arts degree in communication and had a decade-long career in print journalism before entering the field of medical education. After experiencing the call into ministry, Valerie entered seminary at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and graduated in 2010. Prior to serving at Rush Chapel UMC, Valerie served as the minister of nurture at Hillside UMC in Woodstock, Ga. In her spare time, Valerie enjoys gardening, traveling and walking on Berry’s campus.
