Award: $5,000 - $12,000 for first year of graduate study

Eligibility: Women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low.

Award: Maximum of $50,000 per year of graduate study
Deadline: March 15, 2008
Eligibility: Senior with GPA of 3.5 or higher and plans to attend full-time graduate or professional degree program at an accredited university.

Ford Predoctoral Fellowships
Award: $20,000 for Ph.D. or Sc.D. program of study
Deadline: November 16, 2007
Eligibility: U.S. citizen with evidence of superior academic achievement committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level. Membership in a group listed as underrepresented in the American professoriate is a positive factor.

J. William Fulbright Fellowship
Award: Living costs, book and research allowances, and round-trip transportation to host country.
Deadline: October 19, 2007
Eligibility: U.S. citizen with B.A. degree or equivalent, in good health, and has sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
Award: Maximum of $7,500 annually for undergraduate study
Deadline: January 31, 2008
Eligibility: Junior or senior with outstanding potential and intent to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Must have a GPA of at least a “B” and be in the upper fourth of his or her class. U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Hertz Fellowship
Award: $28,000 plus cost of education annually toward the Ph.D.
Deadline: November 2, 2007
Eligibility: U.S. citizens and permanent residents who will have a bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, applied math, engineering or computer science at the start of the fellowship and willing to make skills available to the U.S. in time of national emergency. Apply as a senior.

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship
Award: Average new award of $42,106 for tuition and stipend
Deadline: October 6, 2007
Eligibility: Undergraduate students of superior academic ability who have not yet completed their first year of graduate study and who intend to pursue a doctoral or master’s degree in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences. Selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise.

James Madison Memorial Fellowship
Award: Up to $24,000
Deadline: March 1st of each year
Eligibility: U.S. citizens who demonstrate a commitment to civic responsibilities and to professional and collegial activities and who qualify for admission with graduate standing at an accredited U.S. university that offers a qualifying master’s degree program. Applicants must be committed to teaching American history, American government, and/or social studies full time in grades 7-12.

George C. Marshall Scholarship
Award: University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, and other associated costs
Deadline: Early October
Eligibility: U.S. citizens who hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college in the U.S. with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships
Award: The NSF provides three years of support for graduate study, up to $121, 500, leading to research-based masters or doctoral degrees in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering. See website for further details.

Rhodes Scholarship
Award: Covers educational and living expenses for two or three years of post-bachelor study at Oxford University in Great Britain
Deadline: September 2007
Eligibility: U.S. citizen between the ages of 18-23 (on October 1, 2007) and earns bachelor’s degree before October 2008. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding intellectual and academic achievement (minimum 3.6 GPA), integrity of character, interest in others, leadership ability, and the energy to fully use their talents.

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship
Award: Up to $23,000 for one year of academic study in another country
Deadline: July 15, 2007
Eligibility: Completed at least two years of college-level coursework and proficient in the language of the proposed host country. Restrictions apply to relatives of Rotarians.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship
(Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship)
Award: Tuition, room, board and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and first year of graduate study.
Deadline: February 9, 2008
Eligibility: U.S. citizen and a sophomore with a GPA of 3.2 or higher with outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and demonstrate financial need. Must commit to pursuing a master’s degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program.
