Faculty Awards (annual)
Carden Award
This award recognizes and encourages the highest standards of teaching, scholarship, helpfulness to students, and other contributions to the college community. All persons teaching at least half time at Berry during the year are eligible to be considered for the award (except for the four most recent recipients). The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash prize, and his/her name will be added to the plaque in the Library. The individual who is selected will be recognized at Spring Commencement.
Elena M. Garrett Award for Meritorious Advising and Caring
This award goes to a faculty member who is an exceptional and caring advisor, shows concern for advisees' career goals and future goals, is willing to seek answers to advisees' questions, is knowledgeable about college regulations and curriculum, and is effective in directing students toward productive college experiences. The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash prize. This award is given at Honors Convocation.
The Dave & Lu Garrett Award for Meritorious Teaching
This award goes to a faculty member who has taught four or more courses during the year, inspires students toward an enthusiastic interest in an academic discipline and in learning in general, shows evidence of professional competence in the discipline, and is interested in the academic and personal welfare of the students both within and without the classroom. The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash prize, and his/her name will be added to the plaque in the Library. This award is given at Spring Commencement.
The Teaching Excellence Award
This award (sponsored by the Vulcan Materials Company) recognizes the fundamental importance of the quality of teaching to the value of the higher education process. The award is presented to a faculty member who has made a distinct difference in the teaching climate of the college. All Berry faculty are eligible for consideration for the award (except for the four most recent recipients). The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash prize, and his/her name will be added to the plaque in the Library. This award is given at Honors Convocation.
Writing-Across-the-Curriculum (WAC) Award
This award program has two competitive tracks. The first is for students in each of the academic schools. Certificates of Achievement are given to all finalists, and student award winners also receive plaques. The second competitive track is for Berry College WI trained faculty members, and the annual winner will receive a certificate of achievement, a plaque, and a cash award. Altogether, four students and one faculty member can earn an award each year. Award winners will be announced at Honors Convocation.
