The primary purposes of the Dairy are to support excellence in educational instruction, student-work experience, and statewide recognition of the Jersey dairy cow.
The Dairy runs 55 Jerseys, with 20 cows in milk. A wide variety of classes is taught at the dairy, where students learn dairy production, computer-generated management throughout the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, artificial insemination, and feed formulation. Students also gain valuable hands-on experience.
The Dairy was ranked top jersey dairy in the state of Georgia in 1992, 1993, and 1994. The dairy also was picked as the Grade A Dairy of the Month on five separate occasions and in 1992-93 was ranked seventh top dairy of its size in the nation. In addition to raising its own replacement cows, the dairy obtains animals through donations from the general public.
