History

"I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided,
and that is the lamp of experience.
I know no way of judging the future
but by the past."

--Patrick Henry, 1775

The History major at Berry College offers a strong foundation for students interested in graduate study or careers in law, education, writing, the ministry, business, government, library and archival work, or historic restoration. The major requires students to complete the survey courses in American and World History, eight electives on specialized topics, and a writing course on the Meaning and Method of History. History serves as a core component for the program in International Studies, and students pursuing an Interdisciplinary Studies major may select History as one of their program’s fields. For students majoring in other disciplines, the department also offers a minor in History, which serves as an excellent complement for studies in business, the sciences, and other liberal arts fields.
