Breaking a sweat!
More than 160 alumni and friends returned “home” June 1-6 for the annual Berry tradition known as Alumni Work Week.
Activities got under way Sunday afternoon, June 1, just as Alumni Weekend was winding down. Many Work Week participants also took part in that event, which marked the official kickoff for the Berry Alumni Association's centennial celebrations. You can read more about the centennial kickoff and Alumni Weekend at www.berry.edu/AroundBerry/june042008.
Work Week is longstanding tradition that draws alumni from Berry College, High School and Academy back to campus each spring for a week of “worthwhile work done well.” Work has been a major focus of the Berry student experience since the earliest days of the Berry Schools, and a commitment to providing firsthand learning experiences through meaningful work opportunities remains at the heart of Berry’s educational philosophy.
Projects this year carried alumni to the top of Lavender Mountain and across Martha Berry Highway to the Oak Hill estate. Particular areas of emphasis included Oak Hill grounds maintenance, carpentry work, quilting, House o’ Dreams maintenance and the salvaging of materials from Fairfield Cottage to be used in Roosevelt Cabin and other projects.
